Artist Statement

Riaz Mahmood is a theatre explorer and specialised in contemporary, text-based performance. He has enjoyed an extensive career in Theatre where he had performed for 30 years. Riaz received his Bachelors of Arts in Drama from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. Riaz has played a... lead in numerous productions.

In Toronto he has started working with “In Sundry Languages” as an actor from 2019. Also Riaz is working as an actor with Alumnae theatre in Toronto. Recently, he worked as an actor in “Lizard Season” a play by Annie Massey and “Stitches'' play and direction by Joel Haszard from Alumnae theatre, National Arts Centre, Ottawa and Haven theatre, Toronto.

Riaz has been selected for the newcomer and refugee mentorship program 2020-2021 by Toronto Arts Council (TAC). The artistic director of Toronto Laboratory Theatre company, Art Babayant will mentor Riaz. Also, Riaz has been added in the Canada Council For Arts portal as a permanent company member of Toronto Laboratory Theatre.
